Earlier this year, HTC announced that it won’t be updating the One S to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The handset was barely a year old and packed enough grunt to run Jelly Bean, so this decision from HTC led to a lot of criticism and negative feedback from its customers. 

Thanks to the heavy criticism that followed, HTC decided that it would eventually release an Android 4.2.2 update for certain variants of the One S.

Today, LlabTooFer – responsible for leaking various Android 4.2 and 4.3 firmwares for the HTC One – has released the first Android 4.2.2 with Sense 5 based custom ROM for the One S. While it is not yet known whether the custom ROM is based on the final official update from HTC or not, it is stable enough for daily use.

The custom ROM also gives us an idea of what all features the final Android 4.2 update for the One S will pack including Blinkfeed, Native Quick Settings, Minor UI tweaks, an enhanced Camera app and more.

Head over to this XDA thread for the download link and flashing instructions. Keep in mind that the custom ROM is only for the Qualcomm S4/LTE variant of the One S. The Qualcomm S3 variant of the One S won’t be getting the Android 4.2 update since Qualcomm has dropped support for the SoC.

Hopefully, HTC will release the Android 4.2 update for the One S over the next few weeks.
