Amazon announces the new Fire HD and Fire HD Kids Edition tablets

Along with the new Kindles, Amazon also announced a refresh of its Fire HD line-up of tablets. The new 6 and 7-inch Fire HD tablets come in five new colors, feature an HD display, a quad-core processor and Dolby Digital Plus, making it the most tempting tablet under $100. 

The 6″ and 7″ variants the Fire HD come with a 1280 x 800 resolution screen that is brighter and more vibrant than the previous generation Fire HD tablets, and are protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass. The tablets are powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor and feature a GPU that provides 3x the performance of the Galaxy Tab 4. They also feature front and rear facing cameras allowing users to capture videos in full HD resolution.

Other notable features on the new Fire HD tablets include Dolby Digital Plus Audio, all-day battery life, Advanced Streaming and Prediction and more. The tablets will be available in five colors including black, white, cobalt, magenta and citron, and will go up for pre-order from today itself with the device expected to ship sometime in October.  The 6-inch variant of the Fire HD will set users back by $99 while the 7-inch variant will cost them $139.

Amazon also announced a ‘Kids Edition’ of the Fire HD with a 2-year worry-free guarantee. The tablet sports the same specs as the Fire HD tablets mentioned above and will be coming in 6″ and 7″ variants. The tablet has been made to withstand rough usage from your kid, and thus, Amazon is offering a no questions asked 2-year worry-free guarantee with it.

It also comes with a year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited providing kids with access to 5000 books, movies, TV shows and more for free. The 6″ tablet will set parents back by $149 while they need to shell out $189 for the 7″ variant.
