Amazon Fire HD 8 Reader's Edition

Amazon today unveiled a new variant of its Fire HD 8 tablet, the Fire HD 8 Reader’s Edition. Based on its HD 8 tablet, the Reader’s Edition tablet comes with a few extra bells and whistles.

This includes access to Kindle Unlimited for free for a year and a limited edition rustic brown leather book cover. In addition, the Fire OS “Bellini” on the Reader’s Edition HD 8 features Blue Shade that automatically adjusts the brightness and optimises the content being displayed on the screen to reduce exposure to blue light.

Research has shown that the blue light emitted from the display of smartphones and tablets increases the time it takes for one to fall asleep, delays REM sleep and reduces the overall alertness next morning. However, with Blue Shade functionality on Fire OS, this will be the last thing that its owners will have to worry about.

Other features of Fire HD 8 Reader’s Edition include a new Bookerly Font that Amazon says has been exclusively designed from the ground up for reading on digital screens, adjustable font size, multi-colored highlights, and more.

The specs of the Reader’s Edition HD 8 remains the same as the normal Fire HD 8 tablet. This means that the device comes with an 8-inch display with a 1280 x 800 resolution, a 5MP rear camera, a 720p front camera, microSD card slot, 1.2GHz MediaTek processor and 1GB RAM. The tablet will start shipping from December 9, with its pre-orders already live at Amazon for $249.99.
