J.K. Shin, one of the co-CEOs of Samsung, told reporters in South Korea today that sales of the Galaxy S4 will pass 10 million next week. He doesn’t mention a specific day, but next week is good enough for me. Earlier this month I predicted the company would make an announcement on the 24th, which is a Friday, so I hope that’s what actually happens just so I can do my happy dance.

The Korea Times article that quotes J.K. Shin also says that the Galaxy Note III will have a 5.9 inch display. The original rumors said it would be 5.9 inches, but then that got changed to 6.0 inches, and recently I’ve been seeing the number 5.99 inches float around. Summary: No one knows what the hell they’re talking about, but my gut says 5.9 inches will be the final number.

As for whether that 5.9 inch screen will use traditional or unbreakable OLED technology, Shin says “more time will be needed” to make unbreakable displays, so that’s a no.

Update: The full Shin quote, for those who want to read it:

“We are confident that we will pass more than 10 million sales of the S4 next week. It is selling much faster than the previous model S3. Samsung spent 50 days to pass the 10 million sales mark for the S3. The S4 will be Samsung’s first ’10 million seller’ device less than a month after its official debut.”
