Quite frankly, this is an interesting week to try to launch anything, which is why it’s peculiar that Yahoo officially pushed Aviate out of beta just in time to get lost in the whirlwind of I/O articles rumors surrounding the developers conference.

To be fair, the app has been around for some time, but up until now it’s been invite-only. Rather than offer up a multitude of options to customize your Home screen (we all know that can get a little exhausting), Aviate streamlines what’s already available makes it more context aware. It’s sort of like Everything.Me, a competing launcher app, except that it also offers “spaces” so you’re not left fumbling through the application drawer for what you’re looking for.

The app is free on the ay store the new version also includes a hefty update to the app’s calendar features, as well as a new gesture that lets you swipe up to call or text your favorite people.
