Android 4.4 KitKat is taking its sweet time rolling out, but least some Sony and LG smartphone users can boast that today they’re getting the latest version of Android.
AT&T announced that the LG Optimus G Pro, LG’s phablet-sized smartphone from last year, will be seeing its KitKat update over the air today. The update will take up almost 800MB of space and feature a restyled status and navigation bars, a new full-screen mode, better security, performance improvements, and KitKat-specific features like support for Google Cloud Print.
Sony also posted the details behind the Android 4.4 update for the Xperia Z, ZL, ZE, and Tablet Z. The update includes a new Playstation 4-inspired user interface, a revamped Status Bar and Quick Settings panel, and new messaging, email, and camera apps. The update will also bring compatibility between the handsets and Sony’s SmartBand SWR10. The update is slowly rolling out, though availability totally depends on your carrier.
Sony says that the next devices it’ll update are the Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia E1, and Xperia M2. The company also provided a detailed list of handsets back in February that will no longer receive software updates.
