LG G4, premium in almost every way

The LG G4 is the only major flagship released this year so far that features a 3,000mAh battery. While HTC went with a 2,840mAh battery on the One M9, Samsung went with a puny 2,550mAh battery on the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge.

The combination of a huge battery and a Snapdragon 808 chip — which features 2 lesser high-performance cores compared to the Snapdragon 810 — should translate into the G4 giving some great battery life. However, many G4 owners are struggling to get their device to last for even 12 hours on a single charge.

If you are on the same boat and are frustrated with the poor battery life of your G4, we have some tips for you that will help in greatly improving the battery life of the handset. Check them out below.

Turn off unwanted features

If you are trying to maximise the battery life of your LG G4, it goes without saying that the first thing you should do is turn off the features that you don’t want or will not use. For example, if Google Now is not of much use in your region, turning it off alone would provide a huge improvement in battery life. Additionally, keep the brightness of your G4’s display around 40-50%. Anything more and the display will start guzzling battery like like crazy.

Similarly, make sure to turn off background scanning of Wi-Fi networks from Settings -> Wi-Fi -> Advanced Wi-Fi -> Allow Wi-Fi scanning.

While not really ideal, LG G4 owners who are struggling with poor battery life on their handset should definitely try turning off all the unwanted features for a slight improvement in battery life.

Use the hidden permission manager

The LG G4 comes with a hidden permission manager that allows you to manage the different permissions used by various apps installed on your device. Using the permission manager, you can disable unwanted apps from accessing your location and keeping your device awake, which in turn should provide a decent improvement to the battery life of your G4.

You can find steps to enable the hidden permission manager on the LG G4 here.

P.S.: If you have the official Facebook app installed on your G4, definitely revoke access to the ‘Keep awake’ permission from it.

Do a factory reset

While cumbersome, a factory reset can sometime lead to a huge improvement in battery life. When I first got my G4, I was struggling to get around 2 hours of screen-on time. Two weeks later, I ended up doing a factory reset in frustration and since then I have easily managed to get around 4 hours of screen-on time from the device.

You can factory reset your LG G4 from Settings -> Backup & reset -> Factory data reset. Make sure to backup all your important data from the handset as factory resetting the device will wipe it completely clean.

Buy a spare battery

One of the key advantages that the LG G4 has over any other high-end Android smartphone in the market, is the inclusion of a removable battery. If the above tips don’t help in improving the battery life of your device in any way, simply buy a spare battery. This way you will be effectively doubling the battery life of your G4 and won’t have to worry about not making it through a heavy day with the handset.

LG has been bundling a free spare battery with the G4 in some regions of the world, so make sure to check your local LG website before you proceed to buy a spare battery for your handset.

If the above tips don’t help in improving the battery life of your LG G4, then I am afraid you either have a faulty unit or the poor network in your area is simply draining the phone’s battery.
