According to an interview given by the Marketing Manager of TCL, Stefan Streit, the company is looking to revive the Palm brand under its name. TCL took a similar step with BlackBerry and co-launched the KEYone earlier this year. We can expect similar things to come out of the Palm revival, it appears.

Palm devices originally ran an early version of webOS, which was then sold off to HP and subsequently to LG. This means that TCL will not be able to use webOS on the new Palm devices, and will have to use Android instead. LG currently uses webOS on its Smart TVs and select tablets.

Streit, speaking to Android Planet, didn’t offer details on what kind of devices will be launched under TCL, but hinted that they could arrive by 2018. He also mentioned that the devices will not be in line with the trend today, but will be an homage to the early Palm PDAs and smartphones. So it seems like the company wants to tap into some of the early users of Palm.

With BlackBerry, TCL managed to shake things up completely by offering a mid-ranged smartphone like the KEYone. It will be interesting to see the kind of Palm devices TCL will launch under its wing. Palm launched some of the earliest smartphones in the industry, but the emergence of companies like Nokia and others meant that the company had to adapt quickly, thus leading to its gradual demise.

Are you excited for a new wave of Palm devices?
