Android One has not really taken off for Google, but that does not mean that the company has given up on it. Partnering with Sharp, Google has expanded its Android One lineup to Japan with the launch of the Sharp 507SH. The handset will be available through Japanese carrier Y! Mobile. 

Compared to other Android One handsets, the Sharp 507SH features some impressive hardware features, including an IPX5 water-resistant and dust proof design. It also comes with a 3010mAh battery that has been rated for three days of usage. Other specs of the handset are pretty pedestrian though and include a 5-inch 720p LCD display, a Snapdragon 617 processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and a microSD card slot. Other notable specs include VoLTE and support for Japanese TV streaming services.

The Sharp 507SH is unlike any other Android One device launched by Google and has been heavily customised for the Japanese market. Despite that, Google promises monthly security updates for the handset and one major Android OS update within 18 months from the release of the handset.

Made from plastic, the phone has a very toyish design with an obnoxiously large bottom bezel. The handset will be available in blue, white, and black color, and will go on sale from late July.
