Oppo R7

At an event in Beijing, China today, Oppo unveiled its latest handset — the R7. The handset comes with a premium metal unibody design that has been made from a single piece of aircraft-grade magnesium aluminium alloy.

The body of the handset has gone through 48 polishing processes and features a metallic ratio of 92.3 percent. In addition, the back of the handset “adopts the classic arc design of a violin’s neck to match the double-arcs of the body’s edges.”

The front of the handset is adorned by a 5-inch 1080p Super AMOLED screen that is covered by a 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass 3. Under the hood, the handset is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor clocked at 1.5GHz and 3GB RAM. Other notable specs include a microSD card slot, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, LTE support and Dual-SIM connectivity with one SIM card slot accepting micro-SIM and another one accepting nano-SIM. The 6.3mm thin handset also sports a 2,320mAh non-removable battery that supports Oppo’s Vooc Flash charge technology. This will allow the handset to last for up to 2 hours on a phone call with only 5 mins on the charger. Additionally, 30 minutes of charging is enough to fill the battery to 75% of its capacity.

The rear of the R7 features a 13MP camera with an F/2.2 aperture, while the front-facing selfie camera has an 8MP resolution with an F/2.4 aperture. The rear camera also supports PDAF for faster auto-focus times. The handset is capable of recording videos in Full HD resolution and camera app features a plethora of scene modes like Slow lens, RAW, HDR, Fast lens, Slow shutter and more. The multi-frame scene mode allows the R7 to capture images with a 52MP resolution.

The handset runs on Color OS 2.1 based on Android 5.0 Lollipop. Oppo says that the latest release of ColorOS has been tuned for speed and responsiveness, with improved app launch speed and boot up time of only 19 seconds.

Oppo R7 Plus

The company also launched a bigger version of the R7 — the R7 Plus — that features a 6-inch screen and a beefier 4100mAh battery. Another key difference between the R7 and R7 Plus is the presence of a touch based fingerprint scanner located on the back of the hand. It also drops the capacitive navigation keys found on it smaller sibling in favor of an on-screen navigation bar.

Both handsets will be available in Golden and Silver colors in China. While the Oppo R7 will cost RMB 2,499, the R& Plus will retail for RMB 2,999. The handsets will go up for pre-order on Oppostyle.com later today, with the R7 shipping from June 15 and the R7 Plus from sometime in August.
