OnePlus 7 Shoot RAW

The OnePlys 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro feature an impressive 48MP Sony IMX586 shooter. While the camera is not better than the likes of the Galaxy S10 or the Huawei P30 Pro, it can still hold its own against other flagship smartphones. If you want to take even better photos on the OnePlus 7 Pro, you should consider capturing photos in RAW.

While the primary 48MP sensor on the OnePlus 7 Pro is impressive, its the processing from OnePlus that holds it back. The same is true for the OnePlus 7 which does not perform as per expectations. For greater control over image processing, you can shoot photos in RAW and then process them later on yourself. This will allow you to tweak the final result as per your liking.

How to Shoot RAW/DNG Photos on OnePlus 7/Pro

You are limited to shooting photos in RAW/DNG format from the primary 48MP camera on the OnePlus 7 Pro and the non-Pro variant. The ultra-wide angle shooter and the telephoto lens do not allow saving photos in RAW.

Step 1: Open the Camera app on your OnePlus 7 Pro. Swipe up from the bottom bar or the Up arrow icon to bring up the mode switcher.

Step 2: Go to Pro mode. On the bar at the top (or left depending on the orientation of the device), you will see an icon to enable RAW capture. Tap on it and select RAW.

Now, any photo you click on your OnePlus 7 or OnePlus 7 Pro from the primary 48MP shooter will be stored in RAW/DNG format. However, to capture RAW/DNG photos, you must be in Pro mode. It is not possible to shoot RAW/DNG photos from the normal ‘Photo’ mode.

All RAW/DNG photos are stored in the same folder as the regular photos on your OnePlus 7 Pro. You can find them inside the /DCIM/Camera folder. To directly edit RAW/DNG photos on your OnePlus 7 Pro, you can make use of apps like Photoshop Lightroom or Snapseed.
