After months of silence, OnePlus has officially confirmed that the OnePlus 2 will not get the Android 7.0 Nougat update. This news is bound to disappoint many OnePlus 2 owners out there especially since the phone got only one major OS update to Marshmallow.

The move comes from the company after initially promising 24 months of confirmed software update for the handset. The Never Settle company says that it has already been telling customers through its customer support service that the OnePlus 2 will not be getting the Nougat update.

Additionally, it says that it is “happy about what we’are doing with the software. We already confirmed Android O will come for the OnePlus 3 and 3T. So [no Nougat for the OnePlus 2] isn’t new and we think people were aware of it.”

As for the reason as to why the OnePlus 2 is not getting the Nougat update, OnePlus says that when it built the phone, it did not have the software infrastructure in place that they have now.

OnePlus usually builds a great deal of hype around its upcoming products, but when it comes to delivering the bad news, the company decided to silently inform it to selected users and assume that everyone else will automatically come to know about it.

The OnePlus 2 was a terrible handset right from the get go, with its performance being marred by the fiery hot Snapdragon 810 chipset. Its display was also nothing to write home about and the phone generally felt sub-par when compared to the OnePlus One.
