At an event in Delhi, India, Nokia today launched the Nokia 2. The cheapest handset from the company till date, the Nokia 2 is also the first low-end Android device to make use of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 212 chip.
The Nokia 2 sports a 5-inch 720p LTPS display at the front which is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3. The phone features a polycarbonate back with a metal frame machined from a single block of Series 6000 aluminium for a premium in-hand feel.
Keeping its cost in mind, the handset lacks a fingerprint scanner as well. Inside the Nokia 2 is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 212 chipset which is paired with 1GB RAM and 8GB of storage. The chipset is not particularly powerful but since the Nokia 2 runs on a stock build of Android Nougat, its performance should be pretty smooth. Nokia is also promising the Android Oreo update for the device. Lastly, there is an 8MP shooter at the rear and a 5MP shooter at the front.
The handset is powered by a 4100mAh battery. There is no fast charging but the beefy battery allows the Nokia 2 to offer 2-day battery life — or at least that’s what Nokia claims in its marketing. Other features of the Nokia 2 include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, 3.5mm headphone jack, VoLTE, and dual-SIM connectivity, and a microUSB port. The handset will be available in Copper Black, Pure Black, and Pure White.
Nokia 2 goes on sale from mid-November for 99€.
