At simultaneous events held in New York, London and Sao Paulo, Motorola unveiled two different variants of the 3rd generation Moto X — the Moto X Play and the Moto X Style. While the Moto X Style is the company’s flagship phone in terms of specs, the Moto X Play has also received equal attention from the company, even though it comes with slightly inferior specs.

On the front, the Moto X Play comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD (1080p) display, which is adorned by a single mono speaker located at the front. Under the hood, the handset is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor clocked at 1.7GHz, sports 2GB RAM, LTE connectivity, 16/32GB storage space, and a microSD card slot. It also features a 21MP rear camera with an F/2.0 aperture and an IR filter, with a 5MP wide-angle camera located on the front for all your selfie needs.

The Play comes with a 3,630mAh battery, which provides the device with enough stamina to last two days on a single charge. There is also support for Turbo Charging thereby allowing the device to offer up to 8 hours of battery life with only 15 minutes on the charger.

On the software front, the Moto X Play runs the very latest version of Lollipop — Android 5.1.1. Motorola’s usual suite of apps are also present on the Moto X Play, which includes Moto Voice, Moto Assist, Moto Display, and Moto Actions. All these features have been present in the previous generations Moto Xs’, but they have been further enhanced this year to offer a better experience.

The Moto X Play will cost 2/3rd of what most flagship Android devices cost and will be available across 55 countries from August, including Europe, Latin America, and Canada. It will not be available in the United States, but Motorola promises it will have “more choices” available for its customers in the country later this year.
