Huawei P6: Android on a 4.7″ anorexic iPhone 4

Picture an iPhone 4 in your head. Now imagine it with a 4.7 720p inch screen. That’s exactly what Huawei’s new flagship phone, the Ascend P6, looks like. The Chinese handset says the phone will come out in China this month, Western Europe next month, but sadly there’s no word about the US.

So what makes this thing special? It has a quad core 1.5 GHz processor. No, it’s not Qualcomm based. Nor is it from MediaTek. This is Huawei’s own chip, and details remain rather light. On the back there’s an 8 megapixel camera with an f/2.0 lens. On the front there’s a 5 megapixel camera. Inside there’s a 2,000 mAh battery. And the whole thing runs the latest version of Android: 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Oh and it’s just 6.18 mm thin, which apparently is a key selling point.

How much is the P6 going to cost? That hasn’t been mentioned. What I’m worried about is the battery life. You really can’t get far with 2,000 mAh on a device with a 4.7 inch display. Now granted, it’s 720p and not 1080p, but still, that’s a lot of glass to light up. Once devices start shipping, reviews will be published, and we’ll hopefully find out whether this thing is worth your hard earned money.

Update: Here’s several videos for you to enjoy.

Update: We finally have a price! 449 Euros.

Update: 4G LTE version of the P6 coming in October or November.
