Huawei today launched its latest Honor smartphone in China: the Honor 8. The handset features a 5.2-inch Full HD display that is protected by a 2.5D curved glass. Like with other devices from the company, the Honor 8 features a unibody aluminium design, with the fingerprint sensor located at the rear.

The most interesting aspect of the Honor 8 is the dual camera set up at the rear. The 12MP shooters at the rear feature an f/2.2 aperture and Huawei says this setup will lead to the smartphone taking better pictures in low-light. There is also a laser autofocus sensor to assist the autofocus performance of the camera.

The camera software also takes advantage of this dual lens set up to offer features like 3D panoramic photos, being able to re-focus on objects after taking a photo, and more.

The Honor 8 is powered by Huawei’s own octa-core Kirin 950 chipset that comprises of 4x Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.8GHz and 4x Cortex A72 cores clocked at 2.3GHz. This is paired with a Mali T880-MP4 GPU clocked at 900MHz. Other specs of the Honor 8 include an 8MP selfie shooter, a 3000mAh battery with fast charging technology, a hybrid SIM slot, Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac, and Bluetooth 4.1. The handset runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Huawei’s Emotion UI 4.1 on top of it.

Huawei will be offering the Honor 8 in three different variants: 3GB RAM with 32GB storage space; 4GB RAM with 32GB storage; and 4GB RAM with 64GB storage. The base model has been priced at 1999 yuan ($299), while the highest end variant has been priced at 2499 yuan ($375). It will be available in Pearl White, Sunrise Gold, Midnight Black, Sapphire Blue, and Sakura Pink colors. Huawei has started accepting registrations for the first sale of the handset that is scheduled for July 19th.
