Earlier in this year, HTC had confirmed that it will be launching its first wearable towards the end of this year.

However, it looks like the company’s plan has not gone according to schedule, leading it to push back the release date of its first wearable to next year.

In a statement issued to Re/Code by Jason Mackenzie, HTC’s America head, the company “had originally planned to have a wearable launch in this time frame,” but “it ended up just not being ready.”

According to Drew Bamford, head of HTC’s newly formed Creative Labs team, the current crop of wearables on the market are not really impressive and do not offer any compelling reason to wear one every day. The company wants to make sure that its first wearable “has a strong point of view” and offers a “compelling reason to strap it on your wrist” daily.

In less than 24 hours from now, HTC will be holding its ‘Double Exposure’ event in New York where it is expected to unveil its own GoPro competitor.
