Over the weekend, it was revealed that the stock keyboard on the HTC 10 has started showing ads to users. This led to a huge uproar against HTC on online forums as many users thought the company was trying to make money through its existing users with such shady tactics.

Everyone, however, seems to have missed the fact that HTC uses TouchPal keyboard as the stock keyboard on its devices and the ads were erroneously pushed by the keyboard developer and not HTC. The Taiwanese company has confirmed this in a statement to Android Central. 

Due to an error, some HTC customers have reported seeing ads on their phone’s keyboard. This is absolutely not the experience we intended, and we’re working to immediately fix the error and remove the ads as quickly as possible.

The ads were erroneously pushed only to HTC 10 users and not to other HTC handsets which also ship with TouchPal as the default keyboard. TouchPal has also clarified that the ads were displayed to HTC 10 users due to a server side issue.

Until HTC rolls out a fix, the company is recommending HTC 10 owners to uninstall the latest update of TouchPal keyboard from the Play Store to fix the issues.

While HTC has previously shown ads in Blinkfeed and a few of its other apps, the general consensus among users is that the keyboard is not the right place to show so and rightfully so.
