How to Take a Screenshot on Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are the first Galaxy handsets from the Korean company to lack a physical home button. Instead, they come with an on-screen home button similar to many other Android devices. This makes the process of taking a screenshot on the handsets slightly different from previous Galaxy devices.

If you are coming from an Android device that had on-screen navigation buttons, you will know how to take screenshots on the Samsung Galaxy S8 or S8+. But if you are coming from an iPhone or a previous Samsung device, you will need to remember the new key combination.

How To Take a Screenshot on Samsung Galaxy S8

Method 1

The best way to take a screenshot on the Samsung Galaxy S8 or S8+ is to simply hold down the Volume Down and Power button for a few seconds. This shortcut will work not just on the Galaxy S8 but on all other Android devices out there as well.

Method 2

Like with previous flagship Galaxy devices, the Galaxy S8 also comes with a Palm Swipe gesture to take a screenshot. This process requires one to keep their hand on the left or right edge of one screen and swipe to the other end.

If the gesture does not work for some reason, make sure that it is enabled under Settings -> Advanced Features.

Taking a Long Screenshot on the Galaxy S8

One handy little feature on the Galaxy S8 is the ability to take a long screenshot. When you first take a screenshot, Smart Capture will automatically come up on the screen with the option to quickly share the screenshot, crop it, or ‘Add more’ to it. Tapping the ‘ Add more’ option will automatically make the device scroll down and capture a screenshot and add it to the one that was already taken. You can use the ‘Add more’ option to take a vertically long screenshot multiple times.

So, that’s about it. If you don’t like the key combination or the gesture to take a screenshot, you can always use the tile in Quick Settings to take a screenshot on your Galaxy S8 or S8+.
