Huawei today unveiled its new mid-range Honor handset, the Honor 7x. The handset is the successor to the Honor 6x from earlier this year and comes with a 5.93-inch 18:9 Full Screen display with FHD+ resolution.
The company only partly revealed the key specs of the handset, with a full announcement slated for next month. The Honor 7X will feature an octa-core Kirin 659 chipset, 4GB RAM, 32/64GB of internal storage, microSD card slot, a fingerprint scanner located at its rear, 3.5mm headphone jack, and more. The device features an 8MP selfie shooter at the front and a 16MP rear camera which is paired with a 2MP depth camera. As already seen on the Honor 6x, the dual camera allows the Honor 7x to offer a Portrait mode and the ability to change the focus point in an image after it is taken. The handset is powered by a 3340mAh battery with fast charge support. For some strange reason though, the Honor 7x continues to come with a microUSB port.
The unibody aluminium handset sports a design that is a mix between the Honor 8 Pro and the Mate 10 Pro, with Honor offering the phone in its catchy blue color as well. The display at the front is protected by a 2.5D curved with oleophobic coating to resist fingerprints.
When launched, the Honor 7x will run on Emotion UI 5.1 based on Android 7.0 Nougat. While the latest version of Emotion UI comes with plenty of new features, it is disappointing to see Honor launch phones that are still running Nougat. On a positive note, Huawei plans on updating the 7x to Oreo by Q1 2018.
