Nokia was once known for releasing smartphones with iconic cameras featuring Zeiss lenses. Today, the HMD Global-owned Nokia announced that it is once again partnering with Zeiss to set “new imaging standards within the smartphone industry.”

The exclusive partnership and long-term agreement between the two companies will see both companies “co-develop standard-defining imaging capabilities” for smartphones.

Nokia has in the past worked with Zeiss to launch smartphones with cameras that redefined the industry. The Nokia 808 PureView, the Nokia N series, and even the Lumia 1020 boasted impressive imaging performance for their time and featured Zeiss lens.

HMD Global has already released three smartphones under the Nokia branding but they all cater to the budget to mid-range segment. With the company now announcing a partnership with Zeiss, its likely that we should soon see the company make the oft-leaked Nokia 9 official with a Zeiss-branded camera setup.
