Last year, Google managed to outdo every other smartphone OEM in the market in terms of camera performance with the Pixel 2 which featured a single camera setup at its rear. Google managed to deliver unprecedented camera performance which other OEMs failed to do with the dual-camera setup on the rear.
A year later, it looks like the company is going to stick to the same strategy with the Pixel 3 XL. As per a render posted by Ice Universe, Google will continue to use single camera setup on the Pixel 3 XL. Previous leaks regarding the handset have also corroborated that Google would continue to use a single camera setup on the Pixel 3 XL. Its actually at the front where the company is seemingly planning on using a dual-camera setup.

The Portrait mode on the Pixel 2 is right there among the best despite Google’s solution relying on a single camera setup. Thus, it is not surprising that Google has decided to continue using a single camera setup on the Pixel 3 as well as the Pixel 3 XL this year. The lack of a secondary telephoto lens does mean that the handset will lack any kind of optical zoom as seen on the iPhone X and Galaxy S9+, but then again, the telephoto sensor is not widely used by most consumers.
The render accompanying the tweet also confirms the presence of a notch on the Pixel 3 XL which might not be appreciated by all. But then, the notch will allow Google to include an even larger OLED display on the Pixel 3 XL without increasing the overall footprint of the device.
