At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas today, Ford and Fiat Chrysler announced that they will be bringing Android Auto support to their cars. While Ford is adding Android Auto support in all its 2017 range of vehicles that come with Sync 3, Fiat will be adding support for it only in those vehicles that features its fourth generation UConnect systems.

Ford will also be rolling out a software update for its 2016 range of vehicles later this year that feature its Sync 3 platform.

Fiat’s announcement in comparison was light on the specifics and vehicle model details, which it will likely reveal at a future date. At the show floor, Fiat demonstrated Android Auto (and CarPlay) integration into its infotainment system on the Dodge Charger Pursuit.

Both Fiat and Ford will also support Apple’s CarPlay in their infotainment system.

Ford’s Sync 3 platform also features AppLink that allows developers to create native apps for it. With the platform supporting both CarPlay and Android Auto, it does seem unlikely that any developer will create native apps for it using AppLink.
