Besides the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9, Google has also unwrapped the next version of Android — Lollipop a.k.a Android 5.0. The latest version of Android comes with a number of improvements and includes more than 5000 new APIs for developers to take advantage of. 

Google says that Android Lollipop is designed to be “flexible, to work on all your devices and to be customized for you the way you see fit. And just like Android has always been, it’s designed to be shared.”

The highlight of Android 5.0 is the new design language debuted by Google — Material Design — which should lead to a more consistent experience across various Android devices. Lollipop also provides you with fine-grain control over notifications — allowing you to dismiss all or selected notifications for a specified period of time.

There is also a new battery saver mode in Android 5.0 that should help in extending the battery life of your devices by up to 90 minutes when it matters.

Other notable new features in Android 5.0 Lollipop include multiple user support, guest mode and the ability to secure your device by using a pattern, PIN or even a trusted Bluetooth device.

The Nexus 6 and 9 will be the first devices to be released running Android 5.0 Lollipop. All the other Nexus and Google Play edition devices are slated to receive the update over the coming weeks.
