On June 18, Amazon officially announced the Fire phone, the company’s first effort in the smartphone market. While many thought it was inevitable, especially following the success of the Fire-branded tablets that Amazon has had on offer for quite some time, the device didn’t necessarily launch to the widest adoption rates.

Now, Amazon has officially announced that the 32 GB Fire phone will drop down to a price of 99 cents if you sign up for a new, two-year contract. That means the 64 GB variant will run you $99.99, if you want the extra storage. When both handsets launched under AT&T’s banner in mid-July for $199.99 and $299.99, respectively.

The price drop, too, was probably inevitable, and some might argue that it took Amazon too long to actually initiate. However, the price drop also comes ahead of the device’s international launch, which is good news for anyone across the pond who wanted to get their hands on the handset. The Fire phone will launch on O2’s network in the UK, and Deutsche Telekom in Germany on September 30. If you opt to go with O2, you’ll pay £0 to start, and then £33 per month on a 2 GB-per-month plan. For DT it’ll be €1 up front, and then €44.95 per month after that.

Did you pick up a Fire phone? What do you think of it?
