It’s now easier to share a bundle of photos captured from your last adventure to Google Maps. The version 9.8 update adds a batch-upload option if you want to grace the Google Maps community with your best images.
Another add-on is the ability to hide reservation details from your map. Google automatically will add trip reservations that it spots in your Gmail to where you’re headed (see pictured). For example, if you’re flying into a specific airport, your flight itinerary will pop up when you look it up in Maps.
If you want to hide those details, you can now do so by touching on the reservation and then choosing the Hide this reservation option from the menu.
More details emerged from an APK teardown by Android Police, where they found hints at some type of “always on” mode for Maps, where the background fades to black and white but maintains an active connection and displays your location.
We got a hint of this when Google showed us the next version of Android Wear. It likely needs the operating system update to go live, but the fact that the code is there means we may not have to wait long.
The impact on you: If you’ve put together a surprise weekend for your significant other you don’t want your Google Maps app to spill the beans. Hiding your reservation is the way to do it. You’ll have to do this for each specific venue, unless you want to tell Google to stop finding these details altogether.
