It hasn’t even been a year, and Google is already hosting its second annual Project Ara Module Developers Conference. This time, it wants everyone to join the party—the company announced it will live-stream both its Mountain View (January 14) and Singapore (January 21) events.

At least you won’t have to wait to catch a glimpse of the new Spiral 2 prototype hardware and next version release of Google’s Module Developer Kit (MDK). Google teased the prototype in the same Google+ post.

Google offered a peek at the components in its new modular smartphone, ahead of its second Project Ara conference in January.

Why this matters: Google has a lot of outreach to do if modular smartphones are ever going to catch on, but it’s starting with its Android faithful first. Rather than limit the conference to a select few thousand attendees, it’s expanding beyond Mountain View to reach other parts of the world.

Google seems to have adopted some of the outreach tactics it uses for Android. That's why Google I/O now has “mini” conferences across the globe at the same time as the main show in San Francisco.

We’ll be covering the Project Ara Module Developers Conference on January 14, so mark your calendars and follow along with us!
