Samsung’s rugged Galaxy Tab Active takes aim at the workplace

Samsung’s newest tablet is designed to withst a four-foot drop, attempted security breaches, maybe—maybe—even a long hike through the forest.

The Galaxy Tab Active, the latest device after a string of new Samsung releases at IFA, is an eight-inch tablet that is water- dust-resistant with a a replaceable battery. The 3.1Mcamera won’t take any images you want to frame, but that’s because it’s designed specifically for barcode scanning.

y? Many of Samsung’s phones have been released with an Active edition, such as the Galaxy S5 Active. th the new Galaxy Tab Active, however, Samsung decided to try appeal more to businesses looking to deploy tablets to employees in a variety of work situations environments.

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab Active is essentially the tablet equivalent of the nasonic Toughbook, featured in commercials with construction workers lugging it to work sites. 

To that end Samsung also built a C-n for the Galaxy Tab Active, which is a more rugged version of the S n. The company says it is easier to hle for those who may be wearing gloves while at a construction site.

Samsung says that it worked with some Fortune 500 companies in developing the tablet, focusing on issues like security the ability to hle various different work environments. It includes KNOX, a Samsung-built data security tool.

The Galaxy Tab Active will come in Fi Fi/E variants with 16GB of storage a MicroSD slot. No additional details regarding price or launch date are available.
