Like every other Honor device, the Honor 8X is filled to the brim with useful features and customization options. One useful option in Emotion UI on Honor 8X is the ability to natively lock apps and then unlock them using the fingerprint scanner or face unlock.
While previous Honor devices have also offered face unlock and app lock feature, the ability to use face unlock for unlocking protected apps was missing. With Emotion UI 8.2 on the Honor 8X, Huawei has updated its skin to include this useful option.
How to Lock Apps in Honor 8X with Fingerprint Scanner and Face Unlock
Before you go ahead and jump into App Lock Settings, make sure to enroll your fingerprints and set up face unlock. To do so, go into Settings > Fingerprint ID and Face Unlock. Both features allow you to unlock apps, and hence its best to set them up first. Also, you should set up a PIN or pattern lock for your phone.
Note: If you do not go through the above steps, you will be prompted to set them up while setting up App Lock.
Step 1: Go to Settings -> Security & Privacy -> App Lock and tap the enable button to turn on App Lock.
Step 2: A list of apps installed on your device that can be locked will be shown below. Toggle on the one you want to lock/unlock with your fingerprint and face unlock. You can also use the search button to find apps. During this same process, you will be prompted to use face unlock and fingerprint scanner to easily unlock any apps that you lock.
Step 3: To configure App Lock further, tap the settings button (cog icon) located on the top-right corner. You will find the options to change the password and the type of password protection from here.
Step 4: In case you want to toggle face unlock and fingerprint unlock for App Lock, head over to Settings -> Fingerprint ID and Face Unlock and toggle off the options you don’t want to use.
One the setup is complete, launch the apps you selected to lock. As soon as the app opens, you will be prompted to enter the password/pattern to unlock it. If you have configured face unlock with app lock, you should see a prompt “identifying face”. If your face is successfully recognized, the app will be automatically unlocked.
Do note that after you unlock an app, it will continue to remain unlocked until you lock your phone. Additionally, any unlocked app’s content can also be easily seen from the Recent Apps view so keep this in mind.
