The FCC just semi-announced the next Nexus 7. There aren’t any photos, so you can forget that, but there’s still a lot to pour over. On page 6 (screenshot below) of a 40 page test report for a product known as “MSQK009”, there’s proof that this particular tablet will have Nexus branding. The same page also reveals that there’s going to be a 3.8 volt 15 Wh battery. If you use the correct formula (watt-hours = milliampere-hours × volts / 1000), then you’ll see the battery in question can hold 3,950 mAh. The same page also says the device will use Qualcomm’s APQ8064, which is just a fancy way of saying Snapdragon S4 Pro.
What else can we figure out? There’s evidence that rear facing camera, which according to Engadget can capture 5 megapixel photos. Considering that the first Nexus 7 (pictured above) didn’t even have a rear facing camera, this is good news. There’s also the inclusion of Qualcomm’s WTR1605L WWAN modem. What does that mean? According to AnandTech, full blown 4G LTE.
There are only three things we don’t know about this new Nexus: What’s the screen resolution? When will it be on store shelves? And how much is it going to cost? We should be finding out the answers to those questions next month if DigiTimes is to be believed.
