Updates big and small can be found in Android land this week. Verizon’s HTC 10 and a couple of Samsung devices are getting some much-needed fixes, while the Nvidia Shield Tablet LTE and T-Mobile’s Galaxy S5 are finally getting their long-awaited taste of Marshmallow.
Each week, we compile all the major software updates to hit the Android ecosystem, including phones and tablets on U.S. carriers, unlocked phones, Android Wear smartwatches, and Android TV devices. Making sure your device is running the latest available software is a good housekeeping practice, ensuring you have the latest features with fewer bugs and gaping security holes.
HTC 10: HTC’s Tweet-tastic vice president of product management Mo Versi took to his favorite social network to announce an update to the HTC 10 that includes camera software tweaks, Wi-Fi connectivity improvements, and the usual round of bug fixes.
Verizon HTC 10 owners! We have the approval for the MR update that includes camera improvements and additional fixes. OTA to start tomorrow.— Mo Versi (@moversi) May 26, 2016
Look for an over-the-air update to hit your device from Verizon, which is rolling it out now.
Galaxy S6: This is a follow-up update to the Marshmallow build this phone received about a month ago. It fixes Google Play Store update errors, resolves problems with visual voicemail, and kicks out the Amazon Music app. Verizon has the full details for the over-the-air update.
Galaxy S6 Edge: Same story here, so look for the new software from Verizon to land on your phone soon.
Galaxy S5: The eternal wait is over, as Marshmallow is finally coming your way. Sure, it’s nearly 90 days after the Sprint version got the update, but at least it’s here, right? T-Mobile has the details, but you should see the update come to your phone very soon if it’s not available yet.
Shield Tablet LTE: This model is finally catching up to its non-LTE counterpart with an update to Android 6.0.1. The delay is probably due to the lengthy changelog posted by Nvidia, which details Wi-Fi improvements, gamepad mapping fixes, and lots of miscellaneous adjustments.
