Google is taking a more hands-on role with supporting Android, rolling out a new app with specific tips and access to support. Nexus, Google Play Edition, and Android One owners can grab it from the Play Store.

The Device Assist app alerts you to any settings that could give you trouble, such as battery drain from cranking up the brightness too high.

There is also a stream of tips that detail Android Lollipop features, such as battery saver, locking your device screen to a single app, and limiting when you see certain notifications.

The Device Assist app can put you in touch with Google if things go haywire.

There’s also a button for contacting Google Play support. Along with requesting a call back, you can submit your device statistics directly to Google, which could speed up the troubleshooting process.

The impact on you: This is worth grabbing if you have a Nexus or Google Play Edition device. While the tips are nice, the biggest feature is the rapid device support. Automatically sending your device details and identification when calling Google could produce a more pleasant and faster customer support experience and get those issues resolved more quickly.
