Google launched Google Glass to the public in the United Kingdom today. The wearables are now on sale for a cool £1000 GBP, or about $1701 USD. That’s actually a bit more than it costs to purchase the wearables here in the U.S., but you can attribute that to current exchange rates and perhaps some import tariffs.

The UK’s Explorer edition of Google Glass will come with the standard cable and charger, mono earbud, a pouch, and your choice of shade or frame. They’re available in five colors right now. If you’re unsure about what Glass is all about, Google's hosting a Glasses event at its London Demo Days on June 27 and 28.

There’s an obvious stigma associated with wearing Glass and it’ll be interesting to see if our overseas tech-loving brethren respond to it in a similar matter as other metropolitan areas have here in the US. More importantly, this is Google’s big wearables debut in a major European country. It's the perfect time, too, since the company will have plenty to say about its wearables strategy at its developer's conference later this week.
