You have Android questions, we have Android answers. That’s the basic operating premise of Greenbot, the newest website from IDG Communications. We’ve been quietly posting articles for the past few weeks, but now it’s time to officially introduce ourselves to the Android universe.
Our goal: to be your number one source for Android tips, news analysis and product reviews. Full stop.
When breaking Android news hits the tech-media echo chamber, we’ll do our best to not just report what happened, but help you make sense of what the news actually means. We’re also committed to thorough hardware and software testing, followed by no-nonsense reviews that help you decide what to buy and download.
But most of all, we want Greenbot to be your very first stop when you need an answer to a gnawing Android-related question. Whether you need to solve a maddening “How do I do that?” problem in the latest Android version, or want specific tips relating to third-party hardware, interface skins or apps, Greenbot will do its best to provide answers. Our mission is to boost your productivity, and if we ever fail in this effort, let us know with an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Even better, you can become an active member of the Greenbot community, sharing tips to help others get more from their Android software and devices. You can start right now via our Submit a Tip form. Greenbot is a site for Android enthusiasts, but you won’t have to be a power-user to enjoy the content we have planned. The unifying Greenbot principle is a passion for all things Android—and that’s a quality that can be shared by newbies and hardcore users alike.
In addition to covering all Android system versions, we’ll be focusing on the interface customizations and skins of device manufacturers; third-party apps; core Google mobile services like Gmail, Maps and Google Now; and the full breadth of Android hardware, from phones and tablets to wearables and beyond. Have I left anything out? You can also use the email@example.com address for suggestions on what we cover.
I’d like to close by introducing the key members of our Greenbot staff. Executive editor Jason Cross (@JasonCross00) has 15 years experience covering consumer technology, including stints on PCWorld and TechHive (Greenbot’s sister sites), as well as ExtremeTech, a site legendary for its technical depth. Staff writer Florence Ion (@OhThatFlo) also worked on TechHive, and before that served as the Reviews Editor at Ars Technica, where she focused primarily on Android.
As for myself (@JonPhillipsSF), I’ve launched and run the editorial operations for a number of enthusiast-focused tech media outlets, including Maximum PC, Mac|Life and the now defunct Mobile. I then spent a year running Wired’s Gadget Lab channel before becoming the editor-in-chief of PCWorld—and now Greenbot too.
Interested in joining our team? We have another staff writer position to fill, as well as a need for talented, Android-obsessed freelance writers. You know the drill. Just drop us a line at firstname.lastname@example.org.
